Replacing a Halogen Headlight Bulb
A halogen headlight bulb that is not part of a sealed-beam unit is changed from the back; reach it by opening the hood. The bulb and its base are one unit, held in place inside the lens by a retaining ring. The socket, which plugs into the base of the bulb, is inside the ring. Turn the socket counterclock-wise one-quarter turn. If the socket does not turn or is difficult to reach, grasp the wires leading from it and give a sharp tug to remove it. On cars in which the socket is easily accessible, grasp the socket itself to pull it free. Where the halogen headlight is part of a sealed-beam unit, replace it like a sealed-beam headlight.
Turn the retaining ring counterclockwise to remove it. Grasp the base of the bulb and gently pull it from the lens housing. Take care not to touch the glass globe of the new halogen bulb; oils from your skin left on the surface will react with heat and weaken the glass. If you do touch the glass, sponge it clean with water and dry it thoroughly with a paper towel. Insert the new bulb in the lens, replace the retaining ring and push the socket firmly onto the bulb base. If you twisted the socket to remove it in step 1, line up its slots with those on the bulb base and turn the socket clockwise one-quarter turn.
